The Value of Safety Program Support from your Insurer
As an operator, you continually focus on ensuring the highest level of safety. In addition, you strive to meet FAA, IS-BAO, BASC, etc. guidelines by adopting safety management systems, safety technology, various training endeavors, and other safety-related procedures tailored to your operation. But did you know that your insurer could be a valuable resource in helping you start, enhance, and accelerate your safety journey?
Improving a safety program reduces risk for everyone, including the insurance industry. As a result, many insurance companies offer assistance with activities and products that enhance safety, including Safety Management Systems (SMS) like VOCUS and the services that accompany it.
While many insurers differ in what they can offer, you should make it an annual question when renewing your insurance policies to ask about the types of safety assistance that may be bundled in your policy. This type of benefit can be just what you need to help your operation adopt what you have more effectively or expand into something new, becoming even safer.
You may be able to obtain assistance in getting started with VOCUS SMS, FlightRisk, or GroundRisk. If you’re already a VOCUS customer, they might be able to help you financially to add FlightRisk, GroundRisk, or any of the add-ons (e.g., ASAP, FOQA, Fatigue). Even beyond software, you may also need assistance with Safety Culture Surveys or optimizing your SMS to utilize it more effectively; this type of financial support might also be available. In short, if financial hurdles exist, check with your insurer about the options you have.
Polaris Aero is a participant in several Safety Assistance programs with many insurers and can also help steer you in the right direction.
Other insurance companies might not have a specific program like these, so ask us how to approach them and see what type of assistance you may be eligible for.
